Addressing Challenges in the Abstract: Coding Biopsies

Sandra Steen will discuss the distinctions in various biopsies including differentiating between biopsies that are coded as surgical procedures or those performed on lymph nodes. She will also address the relevant data items under which biopsies may be coded and present case scenarios as examples.

More than 25 years ago, Sandra Steen  saw an advertisement for the position of “tumor registrar” and was intrigued. She applied for the position and got it. She  went on to earn the CTR credential and secured a position at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona, where she served as the Quality Assurance Cancer Registry Specialist. Sandra has served on the NCRA Council  of Certification and was a founding member of Delaware Cancer Registry Association.
