This presenation will include an operational and strategic overview of how AI is transforming cancer registry workflows. It will explore why adoption is accelerating, how it enhances quality and efficiency, and what this means financially and professionally for registry programs. The presenters will provide a registrar- and operations-focused overview of how informatics, automation, and AI can realistically support cancer registry work today, mapped to the daily jobs-to-be-done (casefinding, abstraction, quality control, follow-up, reporting), with an emphasis on doable wins and what adoption looks like in real departments. Dr. David Lindsay is a physician–scientist and entrepreneur at the intersection of AI, clinical research, and medicine. He partners with clinical and operational leaders to integrate AI-enabled workflows into existing hospital processes and informatics ecosystems. Before founding his company, he earned his MD/PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. Outside of work, David enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters.

Kelly Merriman, MPH, PhD, ODS-C Instructor

Dr. Kelly Merriman retired from MD Anderson Cancer Center after 33 years of distinguished service, where she most recently served as Director of the Cancer Registry Department and authored more than 45 peer‑reviewed publications. She continues to advance the field as an adjunct assistant professor at the UTHealth McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics, teaching graduate‑level courses in public health and informatics. Dr. Merriman also chairs the NCRA Informatics Committee and remains an active member of the Texas Cancer Registry Advisory Committee. She earned her Doctorate in Epidemiology from the UT School of Public Health after completing her Master of Public Health and early work in HIV/AIDS research.
