The presenters will also highlight the value of Health Information Exchange (HIE) data in capturing external encounters and improving data completeness. Finally, presenters will emphasize the importance of fostering strong partnerships with hospital IT teams to develop sustainable cancer registry workflows.

Learning Objectives:

Querying EHR Follow‑Up Data — Enable cancer registrars to efficiently identify completed appointments, ensuring timely, accurate, and comprehensive follow‑up surveillance.
Patient Portal Messaging for Outreach — Demonstrate how secure patient‑portal messaging can enhance outreach efforts, streamline follow‑up workflows, reduce phone call volume, and support patient survivorship while maintaining regulatory compliance.

Giordana De Las Pozas, MD, MS, ODS Instructor

Giordana De Las Pozas, MD, MS, ODS, is a physician trained at the University of Medical Sciences in Havana, Cuba, with a background in primary care and rural epidemiology. After relocating to the United States in 2009, she earned the ODS credential and a Public Health Certificate in 2016. She later earned a Master of Science in Biomedical Informatics from George Washington University. She currently serves as an Informatics Manager at MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she leads tumor registry follow-up operations and oversees institutional vital status surveillance in support of cancer research and survival studies.

Jennifer Brown, BS, ODS Instructor

Jennifer Brown is the Manager of the Riverside Cancer Registry, Riverside IRB, and Low Dose Lung Screening Program in Newport News, Virginia. She joined Riverside Health System in 2008 and earned her Oncology Data Specialist credential in 2010. Jennifer has served as Vice President of the Virginia Cancer Registrars Association and has been a member of the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) Informatics Committee since 2024. In her current role, she oversees both Commission on Cancer (CoC) and National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) accreditation programs. With extensive knowledge across multiple aspects of cancer registry operations, Jennifer is especially passionate about mentoring and developing new professionals entering the field. She finds great fulfillment in introducing new hires to cancer registry work and supporting their growth and success within the profession.
