Virtual Fundamentals of Abstracting (FOA) Workshop (Fall 2026)

NCRA's Virtual Fundamentals of Abstracting (FOA) Workshop includes four, three-hour sessions scheduled over four days. See below for dates. The faculty will provide a theoretical basis for the tasks and activities associated with abstracting and a review of the topics most important to abstractors, including Solid Tumor Rules and ICD-O, AJCC TNM Staging, Abstracting, Summary Stage, and Site-Specific Data Items. The workshop is designed for cancer registry employees with between six months to two years of experience. Attendees should have knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and cancer registry resources.

The workshop is foundational and is not eligible for CE credits. Recordings available to the attendees through March 1, 2027.

  • Session 1 - Tuesday, September 22, 2026 - Solid Tumor Rules & ICD-O; Presented by Denise Harrison, BS, ODS-C

  • Session 3 - Tuesday, September 29, 2026 - Summary Stage 2018/EOD & Site-Specific Data Items (SSDI); Presented by Sara Biese, RHIT, ODS-C
  • Session 4 - Thursday, October 1, 2026 - Abstracting Data; Presented by Monica Reece, RHIT, ODS-C
